This week saw not only the reopening of well-known preloved shop Bulky Bob\u2019s Furniture World, but the launch of its brand new \u2018VIP\u2019 volunteer area. The section of the store showcases the volunteers cleaning and restoring preloved items collected by Bulky Bob\u2019s through their work with Liverpool City Council, to be sold in store or given away for free to people in the community most in need.<\/p>\n
Bulky Bob\u2019s form part of the FRC Group, a charitable organisation who work collectively towards their mission to End Furniture Poverty. Their operations generate social value in a number of ways; their collections ensure a sustainable outcome for used furniture, their volunteer initiatives encourage opportunities for growth, and their donations and affordably priced furniture provide families and individuals with essential goods, this in turn improves livelihoods of Liverpool residents. The volunteering programme at the Furniture World store allows people to gain experience working in a commercial environment with a social purpose and develop skills in communication, organisation and team-working whilst learning to refurbish furniture professionally.<\/p>\n

The running of the shop provides many benefits to the Liverpool community. As the volunteers develop their employability skills, their services allow for high quality and lasting furniture to be supplied that is wide-ranging and sometimes unique. Bulky Bob\u2019s Furniture World work in partnership with Liverpool Citizens Support Scheme and operate a voucher system, allowing those eligible for free furniture to visit the store and select items they would like \u2013 encouraging a positive experience and giving customers the freedom of choice. Members of the public are also welcome at the store to browse and purchase high quality preloved items at an affordable rate, with delivery services also available.<\/p>\n
